February 18th, 2024 - The One Who Invites Us In

Scripture Passage:  Matthew 3:13-17

Opening

After gathering, connecting, enjoying refreshments and checking-in or catching up, discuss the following questions.

Questions

1) Read through Matt 3:13-17 together. What word or phrase stands out to you? Reflect on this briefly.

2) I love imagining what Jesus and John's relationship was like. John recognized Jesus in the womb somehow, and he preached that the messiah was coming. The gospels of Matthew and John seem to indicate that John knew something about Jesus as he approached. Still, Jesus was clearly able to surprise and baffle John. Read John 1:29-31 and Matt 11:1-6 and try to put yourself in John's shoes. What  was his faith journey like with the Christ?

3) Have you ever been invited to something you weren't sure about, and then it turned out to be an incredible experience?  Are there spiritual lessons to be learned from your encounter?

4) Is there anything about the story of Jesus' baptism that confuses or bothers you? Maybe something you're deeply curious about?  I sure do.  Share your question or thought with the group and see how others are experiencing this part of the story.         

5) Have you felt any Spirit nudges lately?  Have you experienced something that may be God inviting you in to something? Can you describe this leaning or feeling?
