MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS

Join us at 10 am Sunday morning via live-stream or in-person, or at any time throughout the week. This Sunday Pastor Erick will present a message entitled “While We Wait”. He’ll be looking at the book of Acts chapter 1 verses 12-26.

Ascension is the celebration that Jesus is on the heavenly throne. That gives us confidence and hope. But what do we do in the meantime? We wait. But waiting doesn't mean just sitting on our hands. We are also called to pray, and prepare, and put people in place to carry out the mission we have been given.

CELEBRATION, APPRECIATION AND GRATITUDE - This Sunday, May 29th, in our morning worship service will be a time of celebration for the ministry of Brandon Vermeer, Ministry Associate and Peter Kranenburg, Pastoral Intern. We give thanks for their service, for their gifts and the blessing they both have been to our congregation. May God bless them as they move on to other places of employment. There will be a basket on the welcome centre, where you can drop cards and tokens of appreciation for them. Please remember to mark names on the envelopes.

BBQ & VISIT: Next Sunday June 5th we welcome Kathleen & Colin Wassenaar, one of our missionaries in Cambodia to join us. Kathleen will be sharing during the service about her work with EMI. After the service, join us for coffee and BBQ hosted by the deacons. Enjoy a chance to chat and get to know Colin & Kathleen a bit more.

It's Summer Mission Circle "Open House"  Wednesday mornings (9:30 - 11:30am) at Betsy Witteveen's home (20 Lakeside Dr.). Bring your knitting, crocheting, etc. and join us whenever you can for a morning out.  Anyone is welcome.  Bring a friend, learn a new skill. For info call 905-945-8092 or 905-719-5612.

New Reads in the Library: This week’s highlight: “The Inconvenient Indian: A Curious Account of Native People in North America” by Thomas King

This is a book both timeless and timely, burnished with anger but tempered by wit, a hard-won offering of hope. It is a sometimes inconvenient but nonetheless indispensable account for all of us, Indian and non-Indian alike, articulating a deep and revolutionary understanding of the cumulative effects of ever-shifting laws and treaties on Native peoples and lands.

A Book Club was held specifically around this book at the recommendation of the Indigenous Ministry and the CRCNA. Liz Meijer, Maria Oliveira, Ruth Ann Schuringa, Henny Draaistra, Jen DeJonge and Karin Terpstra met to follow their small group materials. The videos and other materials are still available. We found it to be a revealing and challenging book and would highly recommend reading it. Liz has graciously written a more detailed review HERE.

Shalom’s Extend the Blessing Campaign: This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes Psalm 118:23 (ESV). In September 1979, these words from Psalm 118 were declared out loud, when Shalom Grimsby opened. We eagerly look forward to the day, when we can declare these words once again with the opening of Shalom Hamilton, Lord willing to take place in 2024. In order to make this happen, we need your support to reach our $22 million goal. Will you prayerfully consider partnering with Shalom in this expansion into Hamilton? Envelopes, including materials on the project and how you can partner with Shalom to Extend the Blessing, are available at the Welcome Centre in the church foyer. Questions? Reach out to Theresa de Roos (fundraising@shalommanor.ca) 905.945.9631, X1126 or Anthony Holl (anthonyh@shalommanor.ca) X 1127.
