MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS

Join us at 10 am Sunday morning via live-stream or in-person, or at any time throughout the week. This Sunday Pastor Peter will present a message entitled “A God Who Speaks”. He’ll be looking at the bible passage from 1 Samuel 3-4:1

This message will be in the format of a conversation between Pastors Peter and Erick. We will discuss what it means that God is in control. Is this the best term? What about when terrible things happen? How does the Bible talk about God's power?

Profession of Faith - that is what we call the process of becoming a member of Mountainview. There are different versions, but the general idea is that you are able to commit yourself to the mission and ministry of this church. If you are interested in learning about taking this step, please contact Pastor Erick 416 689 8721 ericks@mountainviewcrc.org

You are still welcome to Join the Choir – We’ll be singing a lovely, simple, 3-part song called "Blessed are the Poor" by Kate Williams that will fit so well as Pastor Erick talks about the Beatitudes on Sunday, May 15. Our second rehearsal is this Sunday, May 8 following worship. Please contact ruthanns@mountainviewcrc.org if interested.

Children (of any age!) are invited to learn the sign language for "Jesus Strong and Kind" to present in worship on Sunday, May 15. Here's the video to use to learn the signs. Parents, please let me know if your child(ren) will participate! Thanks, Ruth Ann

New Reads in the Library: This week’s highlight: “From the Ashes” A memoir by Jesse Thistle

This is a heartwarming and heart-wrenching memoir by Jesse Thistle, once a high school dropout and now a rising Indigenous scholar. He writes honestly and fearlessly about his painful past, his life on the streets and how he overcame trauma and addiction to discover the truth about who he is. Through sheer perseverance and education—and newfound love—he found his way back into the circle of his family and indigenous culture of the Métis-Cree.

LOCAL DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

Faith Practice Reflection - Reflection and Discussion Starter—the Practice of Prayer: Read Psalm 145 and ponder or discuss the following questions.Of the four components of the ACTS model for prayer (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, supplication), adoration seems to be the part of prayer that is difficult for many people in the Reformed tradition. Is that true for you? If so, why do you think that is? (For more on faith practices from Faith Formation Ministries visit bit.ly/FaithPracticesProject)

Survey on Faith Formation in the Home - Faith Formation Ministries is partnering with the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) on a study about how faith is being formed in homes across Canada. Their research will help our denominational ministries better serve families and churches to meet the discipleship needs and opportunities of children and youth. The survey is open through June 7, 2022. If you are a parent with children under 18 living at home, please consider participating in the EFC's parent survey: https://www.research.net/r/89XWFTB

Believe: Jesus and the Disciples - Studying Jesus’ first appearance to his disciples and later his appearance to Thomas offers us encouragement for our faith even when believing in Jesus isn’t easy. Join our Groundwork conversation as we study John 20:19-31 to learn why belief in Jesus is a lifestyle, not a one time event, and why Jesus’ promises to his disciples give us hope yet today. Listen now at GroundworkOnline.com and subscribe to Groundwork's weekly emails for future episodes.

God is Our Protector - Check out the new kids’ devotion at www.kidscorner.net. Psalm 121 tells how God is our ultimate protector. The psalmist reminds us that “He will not let your foot slip” (v. 3) and that God “is your shade at your right hand” (v. 5). This means that if we reach for help, God will be there. Listen now at kidscorner.net and check out all the new content.
