MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS

Join us at 10 am Sunday morning via live-stream or in-person, or at any time throughout the week. This is Cadet Sunday and we will be focusing on their theme “God’s In Control” We will be looking at Psalm 23 and Isaiah 55 verses 8-11.

This message will be in the format of a conversation between Pastors Peter and Erick. We will discuss what it means that God is in control. Is this the best term? What about when terrible things happen? How does the Bible talk about God's power?

JOIN THE CHOIR – We’ll be singing a lovely, simple, 3-part song called "Blessed are the Poor" by Kate Williams that will fit so well as Pastor Erick talks about the Beatitudes on Sunday, May 15. We’ll have two rehearsals May 1 and May 8 following worship. Please contact ruthanns@mountainviewcrc.org if interested.

Profession of Faith - that is what we call the process of becoming a member of Mountainview. There are different versions, but the general idea is that you are able to commit yourself to the mission and ministry of this church. If you are interested in learning about taking this step, please contact Pastor Erick 416 689 8721 ericks@mountainviewcrc.org

Children (of any age!) are invited to learn the sign language for "Jesus Strong and Kind" to present in worship on Sunday, May 15. Here's the video to use to learn the signs. Parents, please let me know if your child(ren) will participate! Thanks, Ruth Ann

New Reads in the Library: This week’s highlight: “Indian Horse” A book by Richard Wagamese; “The Barren Grounds”

Saul Indian Horse is dying. Tucked away in a hospice high above the clash and clang of a big city, he embarks on a marvellous journey of imagination back through the life he led as a northern Ojibway, with all its sorrows and joys. The novel unfolds against the bleak loveliness of northern Ontario, all rock, marsh, bog and cedar.

Share the Gift of Christ’s Hope with Vulnerable Families- A child should look into their mother’s eyes and see hope for the future. But too many children around the world see fear–the fear that comes with food insecurity. Through your gift to World Renew’s Free A Family® program you can help provide women in vulnerable communities with training in income-generating activities, proper health and nutrition practices, and more, so they are equipped to become Moms of Hope. Please share Christ’s hope. To learn more, go to: worldrenew.ca/momsofhope

LOCAL DENOMINATIONAL NEWS

Faith Practice Reflection Tip - Reflection and Discussion Starter—the Practice of Prayer: Read Matthew 6:9-13 and ponder or discuss the following question. In Whistling in the Dark, Frederick Buechner writes, “‘Thy kingdom come . . . on earth’ is what we are saying. And if that were suddenly to happen, what then? What would stand and what would fall? . . . To speak those words is to invite the tiger out of the cage, to unleash a power that makes atomic power look like a warm breeze.” What are we asking when we pray for God’s kingdom to come on earth? (For more on faith practices from Faith Formation Ministries visit bit.ly/FaithPracticesProject)

Groundwork: Understand: Jesus on the Road - On the road to Emmaus, two of Jesus’ followers listened as their companion explained the Scriptures to them. As their understanding of Scripture grew, so did their faith. Join Groundwork as we study this story in Luke 24:13-35 and discuss how we too cultivate our faith yet today as we develop a greater understanding of God and his ways through Scripture. Listen now at GroundworkOnline.com and subscribe to Groundwork's weekly emails for future episodes.
