MOUNTAINVIEW NEWS
Join us at 10 am Sunday morning via live-stream or in-person, or at any time throughout the week. Pastoral Intern Jolene Veenstra will present a message entitled “Love and Heresy” looking at the book of 1 John, focusing mainly on verses in chapters 1 vs 1 to 2 vs 11.
Life is complicated. We constantly find ourselves in a maze of decisions, discoveries, queries and quagmires. Jaded by our struggles in a complex world, we say things like, "The only things that are certain in life are death and taxes." However, underneath all of this confusion is a compelling and simple call that God has been whispering to our souls throughout the ages-- "I love you. Love me. Love one another."
Mountainview Photo Group - Are you interested in advancing your photography knowledge? If you own an adjustable camera (DSLR/Mirrorless) and are familiar with how the triangle of ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture work together, come and join us as we explore ways to enhance our photography skills.
Our first meeting will be held on Monday, Oct 17, 7:30 pm in the Fireside Room. Bring along your cameras, your own beverage and hopefully, be inspired. We will be following a course called "Photography on the Fly" and are looking to meet once a month over the winter.
If you would like more information, please contact Corinne Bosch, 905 945-4519 or email bosch.corinne@gmail.com.
JOYFUL GIVING
This Sunday’s Collection is for our Budget and for: Grimsby Life Centre
UPCOMING OFFERING: October 16th A.M. – Niagara Christian Gleaners is an organization in Smithville that seeks to visibly demonstrate God’s love and grace by working with volunteers to collect, process, and make available surplus agricultural produce; sharing our abundance with those around the world who are in need. Gleaning is a biblical concept in which God instructed farmers to leave a portion of their crops for the poor to gather. Your donations help us to engage locally to impact globally in our ministry of mercy.
Thank You for Giving - The CRC Office of Race Relations would like to thank you for offering up your tithes and prayers on All Nations Heritage Sunday last week (Oct. 2nd). If you did not have a chance to give at that time, please consider donating now to this special ministry and their Race Relations multicultural scholarship fund: crcna.org/Race/Give
Help Join World Renew in Giving Thanks - Happy Thanksgiving! Through World Renew’s Free A Family®️ program, Sandress and Loyce in Zambia joined a village savings and loans group which helped bless their family immensely. Sandress says, “Prior to 2018, we used to have one meal a day...We are now able to have three balanced meals every day.” Thanks be to God! Please give generously to the Free A Family®️ program to help families in communities where World Renew works around the world eat better, stay healthier, and overcome poverty for the long-term. To become a monthly donor, call 1-888-WRLD-RNW or go online to: www.worldrenew.ca/free-a-family
On Behalf of Sew on Fire Ministries, thank you so much for your kind donation. Your contributions are helping us meet theneeds of the less fortunate in many counties, including Canada. What comfort it must be for those people to know that somewhere in the world, someone cares and is thinking of them. Thank you so much for another treasure trove of useful items from the Mountainview ladies! Blessings, Charlotte Mac Kay
IF and HOW -
IF you are considering a year-end gift to Cairn Christian School or Smithville Christian High School, here’s an idea you should consider. HOW you give your gift can add to your gift’s impact, while also making a big difference on your income tax bill.
IF you have publicly-traded securities that have gained in value over the time you have owned them, using these to give to our schools can be a great idea! HOW does this work? If you bought shares for $1,000 and they are now valued at $5,000 – they are subject to Capital Gains tax if you convert them to cash first.
IF you transfer them directly to a charity, you will give a gift that cost you $1,000, but you will get a donation receipt for a $5,000 gift (for many, reducing their taxes by approx. $2,000)! And because the school doesn’t pay capital gains taxes when they convert them to cash, it gets the full $5,000 in funds to support its important work! HOW can you do this? Is it complicated? No! We can make it straightforward: contact Kevin Huinink at Cairn Christian School (khuinink@cairnchristianschool.ca), Ted Harris at Smithville Christian High School (tharris@smithvillechristian.ca), or Kevin teBrake at our Foundation (ktebrake@christianschoolfoundation.ca) to learn more.
We recommend initiating this type of gift soon to gain from the tax advantage in 2022.
