After three months of working at the hospital as a spiritual care learner, I am struck by two common and painful losses that people requiring intensive medical care endure: the loss of home and the loss of independence. These losses cut deep, and a significant part of our life experience is involved in preventing, anticipating, and navigating them. How can we bring our hopes and fears around the loss of home and independence to Christ? What might scripture show us about the impact of the heavenly kingdom on our experience of these losses?

Gail Gorfe, who many of you met when she came to visit our community in February, is back in Southern Ontario for the summer. Her son Zack has a job lined up in Brantford and will then transition to Mohawk, while her daughter Zoya is also with them. Gail is doing support raising and visiting churches and families. They are also needing household items for Zack to take with him to his dorm at Mohawk, the basics, which students generally bring from home. If you can help with that you can also talk to the Deacons. There are only a few supplies that are needed yet. The list of needed supplies is linked here. At World Renew Disaster Response Services, we are grateful to celebrate 50 years of DRS! Our work with churches and volunteers is how Christ’s hope and love is shared through disaster response, home repairs, and more.
