Welcome to a new week and a new Deacons’ Corner.  While it may not quite feel like it, this weekend is the Victoria Day “Long Weekend”!  For many, this weekend may be a reminder to start planning and planting your gardens, opening your cottage or pool, preparing for summer sports, taking out patio furniture, looking forward to upcoming vacations, as well as many other activities that typically follow as the spring weather warms and summer approaches. For our youth, this weekend marks the All Ontario Youth Convention. Many community programs also rely on spring initiatives to bring support to their members, which have not been able to take place due to the pandemic.

As a community, we mourn these losses and limits, but as believers in God we know that as in Lamentations 3:22-23, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Member and Community Assistance

We continue to look for new ways to bless our community and welcome any ideas you might have to mobilize our group of volunteers to help others. As well, if you know of an existing organization helping others during this pandemic that we may be able to partner with to be more effective, please let us know! Please email deacons@mountainviewcrc.org or contact your neighbourhood deacon directly. We are happy to help and are open to suggestions!

It has also been noted that without attending the church, our members are missing out on their mail and various church publications. Please contact the office or your neighbourhood deacon and we will make arrangements to ensure you aren’t missing out.

Grimsby Life Centre

We received a note from the Grimsby Life Centre this week and wanted to ensure it was shared, especially for those of you who are struggling emotionally during this pandemic, or if you have a loved one who may be struggling.

“Grimsby Life Centre Ministries – are only a phone call away! If you are feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, loneliness or you wish to talk to one of our psychotherapists or counsellors, we are here to help during this COVID-19 situation! Please call 905.309.0944 and we will be answering the phones Monday - Friday daily between 9am – 4pm. Due to social distancing, all of our psychotherapists and counsellors are working from home calling clients and/or video chatting privately. Each counsellor has made a “confidential virtual office” in their home so that we can continue to help as many people as we can! Sometimes we all need help!”

McNally House

The first Sunday in May has always been a dedicated time for McNally House to host their annual event, “Hike for Hospice”. This year, due to the COVID19 pandemic, the event could not go forward as planned. However, this event will still take place, and has been postponed until October 4, 2020.

In case you missed it last week, here is more information on how to participate in this fundraising event:  https://www.mcnallyhousehospice.com/events/hike-for-hospice-2/

Grimsby Benevolent Fund

One of our members presented the deacons with a great idea: the next time you are in the grocery store, or putting in an online order, simply add an extra item to your cart. One extra item may not seem like a lot, but consider how much of an impact that would make if more people were to donate just one item out of every grocery order.

Look for the GBF donation drop off bin at your local grocery store, or drop off your donation at the GBF location. Every little bit helps!

For more information about GBF and the services that they provide please visit their website at gbfgrimsby.com.

Faithful Giving

Thank you once again for your continued faithful giving. If you have been blessed and are able to give to assist in meeting our monthly budget obligations, here are some of the ways you can do so:

  1. E-transfer directed to treasurer@mountainviewcrc.org with the word “Budget” in the message field, and/or the name of the organization to which you’d like to direct your donation.

  2. PAR - an amount of your choosing can be automatically withdrawn from your bank account on a monthly basis.

  3. Mail - please mail any cheques to the church address: 290 Main Street East, Grimsby, ON, L3M 1P8

  4. Bridge App - this app has a donation function to make a donation by credit card.

  5. Donations can be mailed to our Financial Administrator’s home, or at his mailbox by the front door. If you do drop them off at Will’s home, please call or e-mail first to let him know:

Will Klein - Home address: 5126 St. Georges Dr, Beamsville ON L0R 1B7 / Phone : 905 641-5133 / wklein5@cogeco.ca  or treasurer@mountainviewcrc.org

Our weekly offering schedule can be accessed on our website under Weekly Update > Offerings. You can mail cheques to the Church for these organizations (place a note in the memo section), or look into that organization’s online giving options.
