November 2021

Welcome to a new month and a new Deacons Corner.

We are gearing up for a busy month and a busy season with Christmas right around the corner (pun intended)!  It is hard to believe that the ministry season is back in full swing, we have already sent our children back to school, and celebrated Thanksgiving.  Now, we have a month where we continue settling in and anticipating the end of another trying year.  All this while busying ourselves with all of our daily tasks, trying to find joy and bring joy to others.

We think of the many families and organizations who may need a little extra help this year.  We think not only of physical and financial needs, but also of emotional needs.  You are encouraged to review the highlighted organizations below and consider how you might help out this year in whatever way you are able.  This can be a difficult time of year for some, regardless of the pandemic still isolating some, and affecting employment, travel plans and limiting recreational activities - let’s spread the love of Jesus and do what we can to assist!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Stay tuned for our next Deacons Corner on December 5th!

World Renew - World Hunger Sunday

Over 1 billion people around the world are hungry.  This week, we observe World Hunger Sunday.  God promises in Scripture to fill the hungry with good things and invites us to join in that holy work.  On November 7 we are having an offering to support the work of World Renew and help put food on tables around the world.  World Renew has the plans, the systems, the partners, and the people to come alongside communities experiencing hunger.  We are excited to join this program as a faithful response to the God who can accomplish abundantly more than all we ask or imagine.

Thank you for giving as you are able to help solve World Hunger.  For information, and to make a donation, go to www.worldrenew.ca/worldhunger

Grimsby Benevolent Fund - Volunteers Needed

Support our local community's needs by considering being a volunteer at the GBF.  Volunteers are the heart and soul of this organization, and they play a vital role in all facets of operations. The GBF welcomes corporate teams, schools, service groups and church group participation, and we encourage you to get the most out of your volunteer experience by sharing your time and talents with them. Please contact: retailmanager@gbfgrimsby.com

Thank you for partnering with the Deacons in support of this great community organization.

Shalom Manor  - Extend the Blessing Campaign

We are excited to partner with Shalom Manor as they, along with Mount Nemo Christian Nursing Home and Wellingstone Christian Home have partnered to build a new Christian elder care residence in Hamilton.  The Campus of Care will serve our aging Reformed Christian Dutch-Canadian communities of Hamilton, Burlington and surrounding areas.

I’m sure it is not hard to find a connection between each member of our congregation and this amazing organization. Imagine being able to give back to this organization who has touched so many in such a positive way.

As the Campaign takes off to secure funding for this Campus of Care building project, Mountainview needs an official Church Coordinator to journey with Shalom and coordinate the canvassers.  This is a wonderful opportunity to help see this project through to completion to enrich the lives of the seniors in the Hamilton area, in partnership with the Grimsby campus.

Please contact Jen DeJonge 289-687-3484 or by email jendejonge@hotmail.com to get started!
