Worship Notes - "Come to the Living Rock” - Lent - February 26, 2025

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter.  Worship in this season is marked by a more intentional somber tone, introspection, prayer, repentance and silence.

During Lent you might consider spending more time in silence (turn off the phone and TV), or in prayer; maybe you listen and pay attention more (and talk less) – using the Lectio Divina way of listening to scripture.  During Lent you might consider paying more attention to how you live and the choices you make – Does what I say or do make the world a better place?  Maybe you might get rid of clutter – in your closets or in your hearts – to make more room for Jesus and the things he’s calling you to.

Lent is a 40-day season (plus Sundays) so to help us count-down we will extinguish one of six purple candles each week in worship as we journey to Good Friday, at which time even the Christ Candle is snuffed out.

As Pastor Erick mentioned in his blog, the theme of “Come to the Living Rock” is from the Guided Prayer team, and the passages and themes will all be connected to stones and rocks.  It will become apparent.  Songs and visuals in worship will be led by these themes.

Middle-school aged kids, ages 9-12, you’re invited to participate in a Last Supper tableaux reading for Good Friday service on Friday, April 18.  No lines required.  Come and see Ruth Ann if you are interested or would like more information.

LENT PLAYLIST

It's my hope and prayer that this playlist will help you prepare for worship in a meaningful way throughout Lent.  If the music is new, some repeated listening will help it become familiar.  If it is familiar, reflect on the lyrics, especially in light of Lenten themes.  Please pray for our musicians, worship planners, and leaders that our work may be engaging and inspiring so that all of us can bring our praise and prayers to God through this variety of musical genres, both newer and familiar.

In Christ,
Ruth Ann
