Worship Notes - A New Playlist for a New Year (2025)
Worship Notes – A New Playlist for A New Year - January 2025
This playlist is a smorgasbord of new and more familiar songs, songs of praise and songs for quiet worship.
There are few songs you will recognize that we will worship with in the next few months (“Psalm 150” and “Love of God” and “1000 Tongues”). And a few new songs for reflection, meditation, pondering, and personal worship (songs like “Centering Song” and “Shepherd” and “Still Waters” and “Firm Foundation”).
Some of these songs will work for our short worship series on “Stewardship” over the new month (like “Gratitude” and “My worth is not in what I own”).
And other songs will be the new ones that have become familiar from the last couple of years or months, like “Love will Never Fail” and “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Behold Him.” (It’s good to review!)
I’ve included a couple of creation songs in preparation for February 16 – as we ponder what it means to be stewards of God’s world - the amazing (and a bit difficult) “So Will I (Billion X)” and “Don’t Forget to Remember” (such a poignant song of God’s love for his children – as seen via His love for creation and creatures). I encourage you to listen to these in preparation.
As I may have said before, Porter’s Gate (a collaborative group of musicians, writers, and scholars) is one of my favourite worship groups. They write/compose songs for worship on themes that aren’t always found in other places – Lament Songs, Justice Songs, Work Songs. They have a new album called Sanctuary Songs that is so restful and quiet. I’ve included “Centering Song” from there on this playlist (with the delightful phrase “I wanna be where my feet are”) but I encourage you to download the whole album for those times when you just want to sit and chill for a bit.
FYI - “Sanctuary” in this title means place of rest, not a church building/worship space.
My prayer is that these songs will allow you to connect with God and maybe reflect in a new way through the lyrics and music.
In Christ, Ruth Ann
