Holy Week - Three Things You Need to Know

As we enter one of the most significant weeks for Jesus-followers, here are a few things to know about worship at Mountainview...

First, here's a playlist for Good Friday and Easter to inspire and inform your times with God this week.  I've put it on YouTube and Spotify.

Secondly, our Good Friday service will be somber, quiet and reflective (as it usually is).  I encourage you to enter the worship space in silence, pondering the impending impactful story we are about to witness again.  Near the end of the service, there will be a "strepitus" which means "loud noise" in Latin.  This symbolizes the earthquake and chaos after Jesus dies on the cross.  This is simply a warning for those of you for whom this noise may be disturbing.

And finally, on Easter, we are all going to participate in a ritual called "the flowering of the cross."  This represents the transition from the meditation on Jesus' death to the joy of the resurrection and new life.  A drab, plain cross is transformed into beauty and colour.  As soon as you enter the worship space there will be buckets of fresh flowers.  There are enough flowers for each person, so please take one, each of you, and come to the front and attach it to the cross Immediately (there will be chicken wire wrapped on the cross, so they should be easy).  This will all happen as part of the pre-service gathering.

Thank you for participating in this ritual of Easter joy!
