What's Going On? BEMA Turkey 1

BEMA Turkey Blog

From 6 am Sunday morning to 9:30 Monday evening local time here in Turkey we were traveling. There was a lot of waiting but everything went smoothly through three flights and four airports not to mention truck, train, and bus. Our hotel for the first two nights is on the Aegean Sea, a beautiful and high-quality accommodation.

Today (Tuesday) was our first learning tour.  Armed with sunscreen, a hat, litres of water, pen, and a notebook, we visited the ruins of a theatre, temples, a church, and house synagogue. Marty Solomon in his usual BEMA way connected location with biblical text and history to make us think deeply about who we are, what our calling is, and on this day especially, we looked at how the Christian message shaped up in the face of unbelievable architectural feats and grandiose cultural events.

How do we even today follow Jesus in compelling ways in a culture that has many powerful and attractive features? More on the answer to that question as we go.
