Fall Line Up - August 30, 2023

What’s Going On? Fall Line-Up

I am pretty close to having the preaching plan in place for the rest of the year.  Here are some hints and highlights of what you can expect.

Labour Day Weekend is a pretty natural transition time as summer activities slow and school starts.  Pastor Jolene is transitioning back onto our staff team, and she will mark that transition by preaching a Labour Day “work” sermon.

The following week Pastor Brady is planning a sermon on Esther (the Bible book, not his daughter).

Sunday, September 17 is our official launch date for the fall season.  We will commission ministries and hold a ministry fair to showcase all the wonderful opportunities to serve and grow at Mountainview.  On that day we will also release our RightNow Media link so that all of us can access excellent Christian content for ourselves, our home, small group, or ministry.

The following week, September 24, will be the first sermon on a prayer in the Bible.  This will be something that happens monthly until June.  Along with the message on prayer, you will be invited to participate in some kind of prayer event.  The first one will include food and fellowship so please don’t plan anything else for the time following worship on September 24.  The exact details are still in the works so consider this a “save the date” and anticipate further information next week.

The first Sunday of October we will have Safe Church Sunday, thinking about how we can continue to grow in being safe people for each other, especially those who are vulnerable.

Thanksgiving will be about giving thanks.  (I know, shocking creativity needed to come up with that theme).

Later in October, I will be doing a two-part series on Job.  It seems everyone I read (books) or listened to (podcasts) on my study break spent time reflecting on Job.  Thankfully they were mostly in agreement and shared a consistently relevant message.  One sermon will be on how we understand the Bible, especially challenging or strange things in the Bible.  The other will be on the main theme of Job: the problem of pain and suffering.

I will stop here.  That is probably enough to let you know there is a variety of stuff to engage you coming soon.  I trust you are looking forward to how God will meet you in the upcoming season and I encourage you to take your step into whatever place will best help you be in step with the Holy Spirit.
