Message: “What Does Redemption Look Like?”
Scripture Passage: Genesis 12:1-3
Opening:
When hearing the word redemption, what does it signify for you?
Discussion:
1. I refer to God’s command for Abram to leave his country, people and father’s household as “quite a command”. Why is it so difficult to obey this command? In what sense does this command also come to us?
2. What does it mean for humans “to rule so that life on earth flourishes”?
3. Do you want to make a difference? Why?
4. Were you surprised that Joseph enslaved all the people in exchange for food? What does this tell us about the fulfillment of God’s promise to Abram?
5. I said that Jesus’ death on the cross frees us from enslavement and frees us to “rule” as servants. What does this mean?
Closing:
Today we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit. What is the Spirit’s involvement in our gathering for worship, prayer and action?
