Message: “Whose Kingdom?”

Scripture Passage: Luke 7:18-23, Matthew 13:31-33

Opening

Where do you choose to see signs of the coming kingdom?

Discussion:

1. Why do you think John the Baptist asked Jesus this question? Do you think it was okay for him to ask?

2. How do you think Jesus responds to your questions and/or doubts?

3. What do you think Jesus means by describing the kingdom as yeast and mustard seeds?

4. Are there parts of Jesus’ version of the kingdom that are exciting for you?

5. Are there parts of Jesus’ version of the kingdom that are frustrating for you?

6. (If there’s time) Look through the gospels for other places Jesus describes the coming kingdom. Discuss what you think Jesus means by these descriptions and where that might change or influence your own desires or ideas about the kingdom.

Are you able to identify areas where you are focused on your own version of the kingdom?

Are you able to identify places you could look for the coming kingdom and/or even be the one bringing signs of that kingdom in the coming weeks?
