Welcome to this week’s edition of Deacon’s corner! The Deacons have had another busy week that we’d like to share with you all. As we seek to serve Christ during these uncertain times, we’ve found it helpful to focus on our vision as a Church, which is, if you need a reminder:

A community of believers, being transformed
by the love of Jesus, bringing hope, healing
and good news in this broken world.

GBF

This past week the Deacons received an appeal from the Grimsby Benevolent Fund. With their retail store being unable to open, and the community needs increasing, the predicted loss of revenue will result in insufficient support for their clients. Already now their food supply is depleting quicker than they are receiving it. The Deacons have made a financial donation from our benevolence fund to assist the GBF, but we could also use your help!

We encourage you to consider donating funds online by visiting their website, or mailing a cheque to the following address:
40 Elm Street; P.O. Box 231; Grimsby, ON, L3M 4G3

Food donations are also welcome. Food donation bins can be found at all local grocery stores as well as outside of the GBF retail building from Monday - Friday between 9 am - 4 p.m.  Thank you for partnering with us in our support for this essential organization.

INDWELL

Indwell is a Christian charity that creates affordable housing communities that support people seeking health, wellness and belonging. You may have had a chance to connect with Daphne Prinzen, their Program Director at our recent Doorways event. We have had multiple appeals for help from Indwell as well. To quote from their website;

⦁ Individuals who live at Indwell face a unique set of challenges: in addition to mental and/or physical health challenges, many support systems have already been discontinued, or are more difficult to access

One suggestion of how you can help is a great way to involve your kids (who we’re all loving spending more time with these days ). Send a card, drawing, cartoon — something that will encourage Indwells tenants and put a smile on their face. If you have a moment, take a look at their COVID-19 response page to learn more and find addresses.

THANK-YOU VOLUNTEERS!

Last week’s Deacons Corner included a request for volunteers to serve in picking up groceries and pharmacy orders for those who need it. Thank you so much to those of you who have volunteered their assistance! It’s not too late to add your name to the list. Simply e-mail deacons@mountainviewcrc.org and we will include your name on the list and match you with any needs that are received.

For the time being, it seems our Church community is very well served by friends and family. We have yet to receive a request for help. We are grateful to see everyone come together during this challenging time, assisting those in need.

Please feel free to extend this offer to any friends, family or neighbours who may require it, as we have learned many of you are already doing, and encourage them to e-mail the deacons to put our team of volunteers into action.

We have developed a community contact card, (pictured below/linked here).  If you have been wanting to assist a certain person in your neighbourhood but haven’t been sure how to approach them, please feel free to make use of this card. Simply personalize it with your name and phone number and place it in your neighbour’s mailbox.

FAITHFUL GIVING

We again want to remind you of the many ways you can continue to support Mountainview Church and continue to faithfully give during this time when we cannot meet during weekly worship services. In addition to the ways we highlighted last week, we learned from the CRCNA office this week that the Donation option in The Bridge App is also accessible from any computer or tablet. You don’t need to have The Bridge App installed, although we strongly encourage you to do so. It’s a great way to connect digitally with our Mountainview Church family. However, if you can’t get The Bridge App, or are just looking for an easier way to give, simply visit our donation page.

Mountainview Church is a community of believers, being transformed by the love of Jesus, bringing hope, healing and good news in this broken world.  Thank you for being a part of this community!
