A New Worship Playlist - September 6, 2022
Mountainview Family,
This fall we begin a sermon series on “Caring Encounters: Ministry of Reconciliation” (see Pastor Erick’s writing from last week). I’ve been gathering songs on this theme, but also songs that will help us praise and pray through the liturgy each week. This new playlist has a great variety of
worship songs, and I hope you will listen deeply, and often. Some are very simple; some are more difficult. Some are hymn-like; others have a more complicated structure. The first song “Teach us your Ways” by Porter’s Gate could be a theme song for the series with the repeated phrase “learn
to love each other.” Similarly, the song “See how Good it is” echoes Psalm 133 “see how good it is when God’s people live together in unity and love.”
A few songs focus on God’s faithfulness and presence in our lives: “Same God” reminds us of all the ways God has been with His people in the past, and how that gives us hope for his presence now! “Yes and Amen” and “I will wait for you” both lean into the theme of God being with us through all our doubts and fears. And then there are few I’ve been trying to get into our repertoire for awhile: “A Thousand Hallelujahs” (almost familiar by now I hope) and “The House of the Lord.” There’s a new CityAlight song “Only a Holy God” which is very sing-able and general enough to include almost anywhere. And the beautiful “Christ be all around me” as a new blessing kind of song.
So get this playlist on: in your house, car, office: wherever you listen to your favourite songs! Just click on these Spotify or YouTube links to get started.
CHRISTMAS DRAMA
It’s around this time that I start thinking about Advent and Christmas as well, including another Christmas Drama! Last year I was so encouraged and inspired by the Mountainview actors (young and older) and would love to do another one! Would you like to participate? Please let me know ASAP! Presentation date will be Sunday, Dec. 4. I look forward to hearing from you.
