What Is Going On? Food Support – November 15th, 2023

A couple weeks ago I had a blog ready to go about the ongoing opportunity to bring and serve food to people experiencing homelessness in St Catharines.  Then I found out that “Out of the Cold” was about to start serving meals 7 days a week using seven locations, many of them churches in the downtown core of the city.  One of our objectives has always been to enhance, support or add to what is already going on without duplicating.  So, in effect, we have been put out of business.  I think that is a good thing.  It means that there are many dedicated volunteers in place.

I also see this as an opportunity.  By reaching out to different people involved in ministry to vulnerable people, I have discovered that we may have an excellent opportunity to pick up our meal service in the spring.  Out of the Cold runs November through March and then there are a variety of groups that pick up the torch and carry it through the summer.  This appears to be a little less coordinated than the plan for the winter months.  For now, I know some names and I know that there will be conversation in January to connect with some of those participating in the summer aspect of this ministry.  I plan to attend and find out where we might fit in.

Thank you for all the support and interest and participation you have given on this.  During the next few months I hope to be able to let you know where and how we can serve in the spring.  Stay tuned, keep praying, and we trust that God will lead us to the place where we can serve in his name.
