May 26, 2024 - Culture: Friend or Foe?

Scripture Passage: Daniel 1

Opening

Once you have settled in, connected, shared refreshments, etc, consider these questions together.

Questions

1.     What words or idea in the passage or sermon stuck out for you?  What grabbed your attention?

2.     Put yourself in Daniel’s shoes. Where would you want to draw the line? What do you think the consequences would be?

3.     Why might it be unhelpful or even dangerous to apply Daniel’s situation directly to modern life?

4.     What are some ways that you currently engage in our culture? (Movies, TV, music, games, sports, restaurants, celebrities, social media, etc.)

5.     What do you appreciate the most about engaging in culture? What do you find frustrating or discouraging?

6.     How might you change the way that you interact with culture? More interaction or less? Are you happy to participate as is or do you want to enact change?

7.     Have you ever heard the phrase “in the world, not of the world”? What do you think about it? Is it helpful? Has it been misused?
