Sermon Outline

“Peace for God’s People” 

Isaiah 9:1-7; John 14:1-4, 23-27 NIV 

1. The world as we presently know it, is not a Peaceable Kingdom

  1. a) We live in a time of much anxiety 
  2. b) We are flooded with tragedy and trouble 
  3. c) Many struggle with meaninglessness. 

2. Isaiah the prophet began in 740 B.C. in a time of similar turmoil. 

  • • Isaiah began his ministry in Jerusalem 740 B.C. 
  • • The Ten Tribes of Israel were defeated by Assyria in 722 B.C. 
  • • Isaiah began his prophesy with judgment against Israel and Judah 
  • • Isaiah’s name means “the Lord Saves” 

3. Isaiah presented glimpses of the Peaceable Kingdom in chapter 9:6,7. 

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government

will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, 

Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of

His government and peace there will be no end.” Isaiah 9:6. 

4. In his turmoil, Jesus establishes the new wedding feast Covenant 

 

“I am going to prepare a place for you, and I will come back and take

you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:2,3. 

  1. a) “If you love me, keep my commands, He will give you another

 

advocate to help you and be with you forever- the Spirit of truth.” 15, 16

  1. b) “I am in my Father and you are me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.” Vs. 20,21
  2. c) “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” Vs. 23 

 

5. The Church is the Peaceable Kingdom where commands of Jesus are lived.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the 

world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
